Susan D. Evers, 70, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Susan D. Evers, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, July 6. She was 70.

Born Nov. 7, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and the late Madeline Kennard.

She married Harry J. Evers III Jan. 6, 1979 in Millbrook. She retired from Arlington Central School District as the assistant director of transportation. She was a state Education Department school bus driver instructor, an article 19-A certified examiner and the owner of SDE Safety Plus, which provided safety training for numerous school districts.

She volunteered at the American Red Cross and for Cystic Fibrosis. She also previously worked for Ryder Student Transportation as the operations manager, Village Transportation, Laidlaw, School Transit and Duke Transportation.

She is survived by her husband, Harry J. Evers III; sister Beverly Riley; cousin, Peter Huer and family members Karen Evers, Joe Cipriani, and Lisa Lamy; nephew Tucker Lamy; and nieces Taylor Evers and Kelsey Evers.

She was predeceased by her son, Albert E. Bender Jr.; and daughter, Alechia A. Bender.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 381 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Family and friends will be gathering at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home at 10 a.m. for a burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
